School of Arts and Communication Brown Bag Event

All players, participants, supervisors, etc. are being asked by Deborah Simpson that they attend this presentation. The School of Arts and Communication puts on a weekly Brown Bag event for the campus. This week Amanda Boekelheide will be attending. She is an actor and teacher who has studied and taught Suzuki for over 10 years through her own company, the Siti Company, and through independent workshops. She is an 2006 MFA grad from Columbia University and currently lives in Brooklyn. The workshop, called The Grammar of the Feet, is on March 17th.

Description: Access near superhuman physical powers by learning Tadashi Suzuki's self named technique. Used by the Siti company and other physical performance groups to create dynamic, exciting and alive performance. Get a grounded sense of the stage and how to be fully present. Walks, statues and slow ten will all be taught. Vocal production encourages listening, breathing together, and ensemble work. Strong, sharp focus and psychical willingness required.

Amanda has requested 12-22 students to be a part of this workshop on stage, and an unlimited number in the audience. To be an active workshop participant, the student must wear comfortable clothing for moving and socks with which they can slide on the floor. The socks and clothing are especially important. It may be asked that the students glance at excerpts from Tadashi Suzuki's 'The Grammar of the Feet'. Also, Amanda will provide a simple text for the students to memorize before the workshop, as Suzuki theatre incorporates unison chants during motion.

The School of Arts and Communications is looking for 5-8 students who are willing and excited to sign up for this event. So if you are interested in participating, please contact the Department at 609-771-2278 or arts@tcnj.edu. Thank you.
